# Create or update an entry

Requires `sites:write`. Costs no credits. Changes the draft only. Visitors see nothing until you [publish](/docs/api/publishing/publish).

An invalid field is refused with `400` and the field's name, and nothing is written. A new entry starts as a draft when the collection has a draft field, so a person decides to show it.

Send `create_only: true` to refuse instead of overwriting an existing entry, or `expected_hash` to overwrite only the version you read.
